Chapter 1 launches in Early Access — October 5, 2026
Mycopsychosys: Project Jupiter Guide

The series so far

Quick answer

The series began as a free 2023 visual novel; the $4.99 Remastered edition (2025) re-draws it, expands the lore and takes the endings from five to six — roughly one to two hours, Very Positive on Steam.

The series so far, in one paragraph

Before Project Jupiter was a pixel RPG, this series was a free visual novel: created for the Spooktober 2023 jam, released on itch, and eventually re-drawn and expanded into the paid Mycopsychosys: Remastered on Steam (August 7, 2025). If you want to catch up on the story before the prequel lands, this is the catch-up.

The two versions, explained

Endings56 (one brand-new)

The free version is the history lesson — how it all started, exactly as it looked in 2023. The Remastered edition is how the story is meant to be read now.

How long is it, and is it any good?

Roughly one to two hours, depending on how thoroughly you chase endings. On Steam it sits at Very Positive with over 140 reviews, and recent thumbs stay above 90% — for a $5, two-hour visual novel about spores and small-town dread, that is a strong ratio.

Content-wise it is honest horror: infection, death and a dread-heavy tone, with the occasional jump moment. It is a visual novel first — expect reading, choices, and endings you can compare with friends.

Endings, achievements and other rabbit holes

  • Six endings in the Remastered edition — the sixth added as new content, and the backbone of the achievement list.
  • Some achievements are missable-by-design. The community's cleanup guides walk routes like "Bad Neighbor" (let a certain visitor make her case and act on it), and multiple-endings achievements count across playthroughs.
  • One achievement learned a bug-turned-workaround: if the endings checklist refuses to complete, restarting the game clears it up. Classic.
  • Seasonal outfits exist. Sporeween and Christmas updates added cosmetic outfits to the cast — and caused a first-playthrough debate about leaving them on or off, which tells you everything about the fandom's politeness priorities.

Two quirks worth knowing before you start

  1. It reads your Windows username. The game uses your PC username in some in-story text (a fourth-wall flourish the community has strong feelings about). If you stream or record, check what your username says first.
  2. It is patient. The pacing is the point — the dread comes from normal days under a bad sky, not from constant action.

Should you buy it before Project Jupiter?

If you like the series' premise, yes — it is a complete, cheap, two-hour story that gives you the world before the prequel recontextualizes it. If you are only here for the pixel RPG, it is skippable: Project Jupiter is built to be an entry point too. See the story page for the playing-order breakdown.
